Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has constituted a Joint State Revenue Committee, JSRC, with a charge on members to check the rampant cases of multiple taxation in the state.

While inaugurating the committee in Makurdi, the governor said the JSRC, headed by the Executive Chairman of Board of Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, Mrs. Mimi Adzape-Orubibi, was constituted pursuant to the provisions of Section 92 of Personal Income Tax (Amended) Act 2011 and Section 27(a-e) of Benue State Internal Revenue Administration Law, 2015.

The governor, who lamented the negative consequences of multiple taxation in the state’s economy, said: “Benue is the most affected, with traders and entrepreneurs boycotting our markets as a result of this unfortunate but avoidable man-made problem.”

He charged the committee to harmonise tax administration in the state, deal with revenue matters of common concern to the state and local government councils.

The committee was also mandated to implement the decisions of the Joint Tax Board, JTB, enlighten the public on state and local government revenue matters and also hold Joint Monthly Revenue Reconciliation meeting between the state and all local governments.
